Does Bearing Steel Rust?

It will rust, including stainless steel bearing steel, in fact, will rust, but the degree of corrosion resistance is different. Because ordinary steel contains carbon and other alloying elements, when it encounters water vapor or other corrosive media, oxidation will occur, resulting in rust. And stainless steel, such as high-carbon chromium stainless bearing steel (such as 9Cr18, 9Cr18MoV) and medium-carbon chromium stainless bearing steel (such as 4Cr13), its corrosion resistance is better. However, rust may still occur in extreme environments or after prolonged exposure to corrosive media.

In order to prevent rust, the following measures can be taken:

Keep the environment dry to prevent water vapor from touching the steel.

Anti-rust treatment of steel, such as coating anti-rust grease or protective film.

Use steel with better corrosion resistance.

Regular inspection and maintenance of bearings, timely removal of surface dirt and rust.
