Characteristics and Application
Excellent plasticity and weldability: The SAE 1006 wire rod is easy to process and form due to its low carbon content. At the same time, it has good welding performance. Therefore, this wire rod is suitable for various welding processes.
Rust resistance: Although SAE1006 belongs to low carbon steel, after proper surface treatment (such as galvanized, painted, etc.), it can significantly improve corrosion resistance and extend service life.
Widely used: it can make cold rolled steel plate, wire rod, rebar, welded pipe and other products. It has important applications in automobile manufacturing, ship manufacturing, home appliance manufacturing, construction, bridge and other fields. For example, it can manufacture LED brackets, rotor, lighting, fans, motorcycle fuel tanks, steel pipes and household appliance housings and other hardware products.
Production Process of SAE 1006 Wire Rod
Slab selection and inspection:
The workers will select the raw material slab that meets the standard, and strictly check the quality of the slab to ensure that there are no defects, chemical composition and physical properties meet the requirements of SAE1006 standard.
Heating treatment:
The slab enters the heating furnace for heating, and the heating temperature should be controlled according to the upper limit to ensure the uniform temperature of the slab.
Cold billet in the furnace time to meet or exceed the specified time (such as ≥150 minutes, for 150mm thick slab), hot billet can be appropriate to shorten the furnace time according to the situation.
Descaling treatment:
Descaling is carried out before roughing and finishing rolling to remove impurities such as oxide scale on the slab surface.
Roughing descaling usually consists of roughing descaling boxes (single rows) and descaling at specific passes (e.g. 1, 3, 5 passes) during roughing. Descaling is also required before finishing rolling.
Roughing rolling:
After heating and descaling, the slabs enter the roughing mill for preliminary rolling to form intermediate billets of a certain thickness.
Finishing Rolling:
The intermediate billet then enters the finishing mill for further rolling to achieve the desired thickness and dimensional accuracy of the finished product.
Strictly control the final rolling temperature and coiling temperature to ensure the stability of product quality and performance.
Cooling treatment:
SAE 1006 wire rod is cooled after rolling to control the structure and properties.
The cooling method can be selected according to the specific process requirements, such as natural cooling, forced cooling, etc.
Take-up and packaging:
The cooled rod is rolled to form a compact rolled product.
The rolled product must be properly packaged to prevent damage during transportation and storage.
