Classification of Seamless Steel Pipes
1. Seamless steel pipes classified by production method
Hot rolled steel pipe: made by hot rolling process, high production efficiency, low cost, suitable for mass production, but the surface roughness is large, need further treatment.
Cold-drawn steel pipe: processed by cold drawing process at room temperature, with high dimensional accuracy and surface finish, but the production efficiency is low and the cost is relatively high.
Extruded steel pipe: The metal billet is pressed into a tube shape by an extruder. It is suitable for the production of small batches, high-precision or complex shapes of steel pipes.
2. Classification by section shape
Round steel pipe: the most common type, the cross-section is round, the most widely used.
Square steel pipe: the cross-section is square or rectangular, mostly used in building structures and special equipment.
Shaped steel pipe: in addition to round, square, but also including oval, hexagonal, D shape and other special shapes, according to specific needs.
3. Sort by wall thickness
Thin-wall steel pipe: the wall thickness is thin, mainly used for the production of precision mechanical parts, instruments and meters.
Thick wall steel pipe: the wall thickness is larger, with higher strength and bearing capacity, suitable for high-pressure pipelines, oil and natural gas transmission and other fields.
Ordinary wall thick steel pipe: between thin wall and thick wall, widely used to meet different general needs.
Manufacturing Method
The manufacturing methods of seamless steel pipes are mainly as follows:
Hot rolling: Workers will heat the billet to a high temperature. The mill continuously rolls the steel pipe, gradually reducing the diameter of the tube blank, and finally forming the required size. Hot rolled steel pipe has the advantages of high production efficiency and low cost.
Cold rolling: Unlike hot rolling, cold rolling is carried out at a lower temperature. Cold rolled steel pipe has high dimensional precision and smooth surface. But its production process is relatively complicated.
Extrusion: The heated billet is extruded through the extrusion machine to form the steel pipe. This method is suitable for the production of some special shapes and specifications of steel pipes.
