Various types of pipe fitting are available in plumbing systems for different purposes and functions. A pipe fitting used in plumbing system to join multiple pipes of same size or different sizes, to regulate the flow or to measure the flow. They made up of different materials like malleable iron, copper, iron, brass, PVC etc.
Pipe Fittings – Caps
Pipe caps fit over or welded onto the end of a pipe, providing a liquid or gas tight seal.

Coupling
Pipe couplings are used to join two pipes together or attach a pipe to another device. Full Couplings join two pieces of pipe together.
Half Couplings fit on the end of one piece of pipe and the other side of the coupling acts as a branch connection to join into an equal or larger size pipe.
Crosses
Pipe crosses connect 4 pipes at right angles in the same plane.
- 1. Cross fittings are also known as 4-way fittings.
- 2. A Cross has one inlet and three outlets, or vice versa.
- 3. Crosses are widely found in fire sprinkler systems.
Elbow
Pipe Elbows are installed between two lengths of pipe or tubing to allow a change of direction, usually at a 90o or 45o angle.
Elbows are sold with buttweld, threaded, and socket weld ends. We stock them in Aluminum, Carbon Steel, Malleable Iron, and Stainless (both 304 and 316) steel.
Pipe Fittings – Reducer
A reducer is a component in a piping system that changes the pipe size from a larger to a smaller bore.
A reducer allows for a change in pipe size to meet flow requirements or to adapt to existing piping. The length of the reduction is usually equal to the average of the larger and smaller pipe diameters. Reducers are typically concentric, but eccentric reducers can be used to maintain the same top-of-pipe or bottom-of-pipe level.
Pipe Fittings – Tee
A Tee is a pipe fitting which is shaped like a “T” and has two outlets at 90° to the single inlet connection.
- Tees are generally used to combine or split a fluid flow.
- Straight Tees have inlets and outlets of the same size.
- Reducing Tees have inlets and outlets of different sizes, the smaller one typically being at 90 degrees to the two lager ones.
Unions
As one kind of pipe fittings, a Union is used to join two pipes without turning either pipe.
Pipe Unions make in three parts: a female end, a male end, and a nut. The nut provides the necessary pressure to seal the joint when the male and female ends could buy together. Unions allow dismantling a fitting without disturbing the pipe.
Nipple
A Pipe Nipple is a short piece of pipe generally provided with male threads at each end for connecting to other fittings.
The stated length of a Pipe Nipple includes the threads.
We can custom make any length pipe nipple up to 4″ diameter in Schedule 40 or heavier pipe.
Pipe Fittings – Plugs
Plugs fit inside a threaded pipe fitting to close off a hydraulic or pneumatic system.
Distinguished from Caps, which fit on the outside rather than the inside.
- Often used on systems that require maintenance, such as draining fluids or gases.
- Stocked in malleable iron, forged steel, and both cast and forged stainless.
