PPGI/PPGL (color-coated steel coil or prepainted steel coil) is a product made by applying one or several layers of organic coating on the surface of steel plate after chemical pretreatment such as degreasing and phosphating,and then baking and curing.
PPGI Coils and PPGL sheets are two different kinds of color coated steel, which are widely used in various industries. What Is The Difference Between PPGI Coils And PPGL Coils?
They are all based on cold-rolled steel sheets. PPGI is pre-coated on cold-rolled steel sheets after galvanizing. And PPGL is pre-coated on cold-rolled steel sheets with an alloy of 55% aluminum and 43.4% zinc. The density of 55% AL-Zn is lower than that of Zn. And it is more cost-effective to use galvalume materials than galvanized materials.
In conclusion, They have many differences. Firstly, PPGL Steel Coil offers a smoother finish than PPGI Steel Coil. Secondly, Corrosion in PPGL Steel Coil spreads, whereas in PPGI Steel Coil it remains localized and does not spread easily. Thirdly, PPGL Steel Coil is more corrosion resistant than PPGI Steel Coil, however, its cut edges are less protected. This is because of the steel coating’s honeycomb structure, which does not provide sufficient protection to exposed edges.
