API 5L Line Pipe Standard Scope
API 5L Line Pipe Made according to API Specification 5L 46th Edition. It sets out the requirements for the manufacture of two product specification levels PSL1 and PSL2. Seamless and welded steel pipes in this scope which can be used in pipeline transportation systems in oil and gas industries. This standard does not cover cast pipe.
In essence, API 5L refers to carbon steel pipes that are used in oil and gas transmission systems, as well as other fluid conveyance systems. It is suitable for conveying such fluids as steam, water and slurry; providing dependable transmission from any point of collection to any point of distribution. API 5L line pipe from IBC Metal Group Products is available in a range of wall thicknesses, and is made to order locally to meet the specific requirements of our customers. We offer both seamless and welded (ERW, LSAW, SSAW) to meet the particular challenges of all transmission environments.

Common Applications of the High Yield Carbon Steel Pipe
In addition to transporting water, oil, and gas, IBC’s high yield carbon steel pipe is widely used. Generally, API 5L Line Pipe Specifications are for standard Grade A and Grade B pipes, with Grade X indicating stronger variants for offshore, arctic, deep well, and harsher environments.
API 5L Line Pipe Grade Covers
It Covers Grade B, X42, X46, X52, X56, X60, X65, X70, X80. API 5L steel line pipe is available in various grades, ranging from Gr. B to X120. The higher the grade, the greater the control over carbon equivalent and mechanical strength, as well as stricter requirements for sulfur content. Additionally, there’s a difference between seamless and welded pipes; welded pipes have reduced levels of carbon but must meet more stringent standards.
In terms of different delivery conditions, there are also As-rolled, normalizing rolled, thermomechanical rolled, normalizing formed, normalized, normalized and tempered, quenched and tempered. In order to select the appropriate material specification, pipe grade, API 5L product service level (PSL), API 5L Annex Requirements or CSA Z245.1 category or service group, it is necessary to understand the planned end use and desired method of pipe fabrication.

Conclusions
Material grades A53 Gr. B, A106 Gr. B and API 5L Gr. X42 are all similar in terms of their chemical and mechanical properties, with pipes often meeting all three specifications (quadri-norm pipes). However, for the API 5L specification, the requirements and tests are much stricter than those applied to the other two equivalent ASTM specifications. When looking at EN pipe standards, API 5L Gr. B is equivalent to EN 10216-1 P265GH (seamless) and EN 10217-1 P265 (welded), while EN 10216-2 P265 GH corresponds to ASTM A106 Gr. B pipes.
