What is S7 tool steel?
S7 Cold Work Tool Steel is specified in ASTM A681. Within the ASTM A681 tool steel standard, shock-resisting steels are identified as Group S in the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) categorization. S1, S2, S5, S6 and S7 are the various types of such tool steel available. Particularly known for its outstanding shock resistance, AISI S7 exhibits high hardenability amongst these grades. Additionally, it also features good softening resistance when subjected to higher temperatures. All these properties enable it to be used for hot work operations with safety and stability. This is possible since air hardening takes place when subjecting it to heat treatment.
With its unique combination of properties, AISI S7 tools steel is applicable to a wide range of tool and die applications – where shock-resistance, medium heat-work properties, or ease of machining and heat-treatment are most important.

Applications：
Because of its unusual combination of properties, S7 tool steel is suitable and versatile for a wide range of tool and die applications. AISI S7 Steel can be used for hot and cold shock applications, medium hot-work dies and medium-run cold work tools and dies. It can be used to make cold working tools that need to resist impact force and impact load, such as shear blades, forging dies, chisels and punching machines. It can also be used to operate hot tools whose temperature is not higher than 538℃.
